The LifeTown Gift Shop was built as an operational e-commerce and gifting platform rather than a standard online store. In addition to supporting direct purchases, the platform enables customers to buy gifts on behalf of others, route items appropriately, and maintain clarity between purchaser, recipient, and fulfillment details. Built on WooCommerce but extended beyond its default capabilities, the system supports inventory accuracy, flexible gifting workflows, and ongoing operational maintenance. The result is a reliable, scalable platform that supports both everyday sales and mission-driven gifting without manual workarounds or administrative friction.
Traditional e-commerce platforms are designed around a simple buyer-to-shipper model, which breaks down quickly in gift-driven environments. For LifeTown, a significant portion of purchases are made on behalf of others—requiring clear separation between purchaser, recipient, messaging, and fulfillment logic. Standard WooCommerce configurations do not handle these scenarios cleanly without customization.
